Empowering Change: 2024 Young Ambassadors' Conference

The Young Ambassadors’ Conference at Ghiyasuddin International School convened its third annual session this year coinciding with the United Nations Day 2024. This event gathers young minds to explore diplomacy, foster communication skills, and tackle today’s global challenges. Since its inception in 2022, the conference has become a powerful platform, encouraging students to examine their role in shaping a just and sustainable future. Some of the key objectives of this dialogue are development of practical skills of the students, broadening their insights into international relations, and empowering them in creating a more equitable and inclusive world.

This year’s conference saw participation from 42 students representing 18 diverse countries, each bringing unique perspectives to the discussions. The six-member secretariat team amongst the students led the coordination of the initiative while ensuring the linking of the local challenges to the critical global issues.

The discussions centered on key global priorities, promoting peace, protecting the planet, strengthening international law and justice, empowering women and girls, and improving digital cooperation. Through structured dialogues and thought-provoking sessions, students explored these pressing issues, examining challenges, potential solutions, and the collaborative efforts required to address them. Each segment of the conference aimed to foster leadership, advocacy, and cross-cultural understanding, encouraging participants to appreciate the value of teamwork in addressing complex issues.

The school perceives the conference to be more than a discussion forum for the students. It is meant to be stepping stone into the developmental journey for participants where they sharpen their leadership capabilities and gain a deeper understanding of global dynamics. UN Maldives recognizes the commitment of the school to empower the students and broaden their perspectives of developmental issues. This forum is an initiative that contributes toward enhanced role of youth in building a sustainable future for all.
