The Government of the Maldives and the United Nations have jointly developed the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2027–2031 through an inclusive and consultative process involving national stakeholders, development partners and other key actors. The Framework sets out the shared priorities and strategic direction for cooperation between the Government and the United Nations in support of the Maldives’ national development aspirations and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.The UNSDCF 2027–2031 is centred around three interconnected Strategic Priorities: Human Capital; Resilience and Sustainability; and Governance. Together, these priorities aim to support inclusive and equitable human development, strengthen resilience to economic, environmental and climate-related challenges, and promote effective, accountable and inclusive governance.The Framework was signed on 24 August 2026 by Her Excellency Iruthisham Adam, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, on behalf of the Government of Maldives, and Mr. Hao Zhang, United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Maldives, on behalf of the United Nations. The signing reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Government and the United Nations to advancing sustainable, inclusive and resilient development for the people of the Maldives.
